This page is a design mockup. The business, the phone number, the address and the prices on it are placeholders, not a real listing.

Everyone asks which one to take first. It is Slow Flow on a Tuesday.

Twenty people, most of them not flexible, a teacher who says the name of the pose and then says it again in plain English, and nobody looking at you. It runs an hour, it does not go upside down, and it is the class we would put a nervous person in if they let us choose.

If Tuesday at half past nine does not work, the second answer is Sunday Restorative, which is closer to lying on the floor with props than to exercise, and nobody has ever felt out of place in it.

An empty upstairs studio room with worn floorboards, two tall sash windows and one rolled mat lying on the floor in the morning light.
Open wooden shelves stacked with folded grey wool blankets, cork blocks and rolled bolsters.

The week

The whole schedule, not a sample of it. Nothing here changes week to week, so if it is on this grid it is happening. Weather closures go on the door and on the phone message.

Otherwise closed. It is the one day the room gets aired out.

A studio room seen from the back with about twenty mats laid out in rows on a wooden floor, a block and a strap beside each one, before a class.
What each of those actually is

Studio names for classes are usually meaningless to a person deciding whether they can do it. These are written for that person.

Slow Flow

Anyone, first class

Sixty minutes. Standing poses held long enough to find them, everything named twice, and one option offered every time. The busiest class on the schedule for a reason.
Sunrise Flow

Anyone, but awake

Forty-five minutes, out the door by ten to seven. Warmer room, less talking, and no music. People come in silence and leave in silence and that is the appeal.
Vinyasa

Second month onward

Sixty minutes, continuous, and it will make you breathe hard. There are inversions offered and never required. Come to Slow Flow four or five times first, not because we say so but because you will enjoy this one more.
Strength & Hold

Anyone, hard anyway

Fifty minutes of long holds and slow lowering, with blocks and straps doing real work. This is the one lifters and runners end up in. Nothing fast happens.
Chair & Gentle

Any body, any age

Fifty minutes, half of it seated in a chair, the rest standing with the chair right there. Built for stiff hips, replaced knees, and anyone who cannot get up and down off a floor comfortably. Ruth has taught it for eleven years.
Restorative

Anyone, including the exhausted

Seventy-five minutes, five or six shapes, every one of them propped up with bolsters and blankets so that you are held rather than holding. Several people fall asleep every week and nobody minds.
Half Hour

Lunch break

Thirty minutes on the dot, twelve to twelve thirty, no shower needed afterwards. It exists so that people working on the square can come in and go back.
What it costs

Three prices, no tiers, no contract, and nothing that auto-renews. Mats, blocks, straps, bolsters and blankets are all here and all free to use.

  • Walk in once$18
  • Ten classes, no expiry$150
  • A month, unlimited, cancel any time$95

Your first class is free and you do not have to mention this page to get it. Students, teachers and anyone over sixty-five pay $12 a class or $70 a month. If the month is genuinely the reason you are not coming, say so at the desk and we will work it out, quietly.

Your first time, in order

Nobody tells you any of this and it is the whole reason people do not come.

  1. Do not book. Turn up fifteen minutes early and knock if the door is stuck, it swells in summer.
  2. Wear what you would wear to walk the dog. Leggings are not required and neither is anything tight.
  3. Take a mat from the rack by the window. You do not need to own one, and the ones for sale at the desk are there for people who want their own, not because yours is wrong.
  4. Tell the teacher one thing about your body on the way in. A bad shoulder, a new knee, twenty weeks pregnant. That is all they need and they will not bring it up in front of anyone.
  5. Sit down whenever you want. Every class has somebody sitting one out and no one is looking at them, including the teacher.
  6. Leave your phone in the basket. That part we are firm about.
